K-pop to pop-punk noisemaker AleXa is continuing her march toward the release of her upcoming English album with the release of her latest single, “Joy of Missing Out,” an introverted person’s new favorite song as the extroverted AleXa perfectly captures the feelings and themes of wanting to stay home and not deal with day-to-day drama.
Joining her previously released pop-punk-based singles, “Joy of Missing Out,” strips things back a bit while still inviting listeners into AleXa’s newest playground.
But, is AleXa’s new introvert anthem a standout? Or, is it just cannon fodder waiting to hide in the shadows within the confines of her upcoming album? Let’s jump right into it and find out.
Creating what is essentially an anthem for introverts on paper is an interesting prospect. But, AleXa manages to create an incredibly appealing song for the crowd that loves to stay in and party their own way, while not completely shunning us in the extroverted group as well. “Joy of Missing Out” is a pure vibe in its own right, built around a sensational soundscape that manages to feel familiar while being unique and fresh.
Lyrically, “Joy of Missing Out” is what one would come to expect when jumping into a song that revolves around introverted themes. The usual suspects of parties and putting yourself out there are clear and present. But, the overall song structure is easy to memorize quickly helping AleXa’s latest single to become an earworm that had me occasionally singing along while doing day-to-day things around the house.
It’s the single’s subtle pleasantries that will hook listeners in the long term which will further help it to have a lasting draw in a world of quick minds and passing thoughts. Vocally, AleXa continues to kill it, pushing herself to her limit and not settling for anything less, further showcasing her powerhouse position.
As a single, “Joy of Missing Out” is a fun little romp. But, I feel the single’s true staying power will further increase once slotted nicely within AleXa’s upcoming album, encircled with her other pop-punk experiments.
With “Joy of Missing Out” now out in the wild, the stage is set for possibly another single ahead of her upcoming album, or maybe a release date announcement? Whatever might come next, one thing is certain, I had a fun time listening to “Joy of Missing Out” and when showcased alongside her previously released singles makes for an interesting contrast that should only help AleXa’s upcoming album to be not your typical pop-punk affair.
