“Higher Power” – Coldplay – Review

Coldplay has unleashed an epic dance party among the planet with their latest single, “Higher Power.” A fun-filled, empowering little number that’s for sure to get your blood pumping and feet moving. It’s been a few months since the song had its initial release. But it’s constantly been in my head since then, so I figured I’d give it a proper review. Better late than never, as the saying goes.

Speaking on the meaning of “Higher Power,” frontman Chris Martin stated, “the song is about trying to find the astronaut in all of us, the person that can do amazing things.” Well, does Coldplay manage to achieve that notion with the latest single off their upcoming ninth studio album? Let’s find out.

The Review

I’ll be honest, I’ve probably listened to “Higher Power” more than 5000+ times at this point and have half-assed attempted the track’s infectious dance number featured in the song’s music video a handful of times. A wonderfully charming tune, and being a fan of Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto era, the band’s latest single is right up my alley.

Everything from Chris Martin’s playful vocal melodies to Guy Berryman’s hopscotch bass lines, “Higher Power” has it all. Don’t even get me started on Will Champion’s heart-pounding drumming that will leave you sweating like you just ran a 5k and Jonny “The Legend Himself” Buckland’s whimsical guitar riffs.

“Higher Power” won’t be a track for everyone, but coming out from a world-shattering pandemic, it’s the type of song the world needs right now. A beautifully articulated piece of sound that leaves listeners feeling empowered and high on life.

In a matter of a few listens you’ll be jumping right out of your chair dancing around with no care in the world singing, “I’m so happy that I’m alive.”

“Higher Power” is Coldplay at their full power. A carefree band that makes music for themselves that they enjoy playing. I, for one, can’t wait to experience “Higher Power” in a full-blown live setting. Now that is going to be a magical experience.

Wrapping Up

As I stated before, “Higher Power” isn’t for everyone. I’ve already seen so much of the Coldplay fan base moaning and complaining while the other half is having the time of their lives bouncing off the walls.

That’s all fine and dandy, as everyone has their own personal musical flavor. This happens to be mine and tons of others. It’s the mythical “perfect” Coldplay song, but it’s the band firing off on all cylinders to have fun. And when it comes down to it, music is fun, and that’s just what “Higher Power” is; fun.

If you’d like to keep tabs on all things Coldplay, you’re going to want to head over to their official website and check their socials often as they continue to ramp up hype for their upcoming studio album. Also, if remixes are your bread and butter, Coldplay has released quite a few for “Higher Power” as well as a beautiful acoustic rendition, which can be found on your favorite streaming service.
